Pioneers of the Panhandle, Finch, Lord & Nelson established the Ranch in 1885 for the purpose of raising Hereford bulls to sell to cattlemen like Mr. Charles Goodnight. With Indian Creek running through it, there are two trails that lead to the creek and a small lake, with willow lined banks along the way.

At Finch Ranch, an Amarillo Texas bed and breakfast, we have an abundant supply of wildlife and hospitality. At any given time you may see birds such as turkey, roadrunner, cardinal, purple finch, painted bunting, bluebird, dove and quail, to name just a few. Other wildlife includes mule and white-tail deer, bobcat, armadillo, squirrel, porcupine, coyote, raccoon, dragon flies, and fire flies.

The wildflowers are breathtaking in the spring and summer. Grab a pail and gather wild plums or grapes. If you visit in the fall you are sure to enjoy the stunning foliage-even winter is special, watching the bird feeders at their busiest time of the year.

The historic Texas ranch is located in a secluded area with incredible scenic views-the sunsets are free and at night the vast endless sky is so full of stars-you feel like you can reach out and touch them.

Enjoy the colorful history of Panhandle pioneers in "A Family Named Finch," or many other Western heritage books while you're at the Amarillo Texas bed and breakfast lodge. Finch Ranch Lodge is a rustic ranch house, built by our Great-Grandfather almost 100 years ago. Close to the edge of the Caprock in the Texas Panhandle, and nestled in a historic ranching area, we are located 1 hour and 15 minutes southeast from Amarillo on Highway 287, with many area attractions less than 1 ½ hours drive from us. A few are Palo Duro Canyon State Park, American Quarter Horse Museum, the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum, and the Square House Museum -where there is a Finch Ranch Exhibit. Our local attractions are the Clarendon's Saints Roost Museum, Greenbelt Lake, an 18-hole golf course, James Pinckney Rodgers Bird Sanctuary, Taylor Lakes Wildlife Preserve and antiquing.
